In order to maintain work-life balance, individuals are required to have skills to complete their objectives in a timely and efficient manner which is known as personal effectiveness (Nag et al. 2023). Therefore, for an individual, personal effectiveness is crucial which can help them to improve their working abilities and time management. In this regard, these skills are crucial for a person to gain benefits in an organisational and educational setting. Therefore, it is crucial to improve personal effectiveness which will help them to increase their efficiency.
The main aim of the report is to provide strategies that can help a person to improve their skills which are crucial for development in a career. For a student, it is crucial to have skills and competencies which are effective in education and career which will help in growth and development. This report will help in identifying skills that are required to be improved. The relevance of the report lies in identifying methods to improve them for growth in their career.
The report includes three tasks where the first task will help in identifying skills through self- reflection. The second task will help in comparing skills with a global leader and in the final tasks, areas of improvement will be identified and methods will be recommended to improve them.
This task will include self-reflection which is a suitable method for identifying skills and competencies. In this regard, Gibbs’ reflective model will be used which will help in identifying strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, those skills will be justified in terms of career which will help in understanding their importance.
For the purpose of reflection, Gibbs’ reflective cycle will be used which is an effective model for self-reflection.

Gibbs’ reflective model consists of six stages which are effective for the purpose of reflecting on a particular matter or experience. Furthermore, reflective learning is crucial for students as it can lead to better educational outcomes as students take responsibility for their learning.
While doing a group project in college, I worked in the group which helped me to identify several skills that are crucial for teamwork. In this regard, my leadership skills were excellent and we completed the project on time which describes my time management skills.
During the project, I was excited to take on new challenges as a leader which helped me to complete the project in time. However, a conflict has been noticed during data collection which has a great impact on the completion of the project. It was sad for me that I also faced some challenges related to data analysis.
The occurrence of conflict is a sign of low emotional intelligence which is a crucial skill for a leader. Emotional intelligence is mostly correlated with leadership concepts (Lubbadeh, 2020). Furthermore, it is crucial to have critical thinking skills which will help a person to analyse a situation or data which is crucial for the completion of a project. However, I led the teams effectively which led to effective time management. In order to reach personal goals, time management is crucial for planning and controlling activities to achieve personal goals (Demirdag, 2021). Therefore, we were able to plan and manage activities effectively.
From the above analysis, it can be seen that my strengths include leadership and time management which is crucial for improvement in my career. In this regard, as seen, my weaknesses include emotional intelligence and critical thinking which are required to be improved.
In conclusion, it can be said that leadership skills and time management skills are effective for completing a task. In an organisational setting, it is crucial for individuals to have leadership skills to manage teams and time management skills to reach company objectives. However, it is crucial for people to have emotional intelligence which will help in managing employees.
For the improvement of weaknesses, it is crucial to have an action plan that will help in acquiring skills. In this regard, self-awareness is required to be improved which will further help in improving emotional intelligence. Furthermore, I need to improve my critical thinking skills which can be done through solving mathematical problems.
In the future, I want to be a financial manager which requires different skills which can help me to improve operational efficiency. In this regard, leadership skills are crucial which can help me to manage my team effectively. In order to reach goals leadership can help in leading people (Kumar, 2020). Therefore, leadership is a crucial skill for a person to lead people. Therefore, this will help me to manage employees effectively. Furthermore, time management skills are effective for me to complete tasks on time. However, for a financial manager, critical skills are effective which can help them to analyse situations and data related to finance. Different research over time has shown that critical thinkers are effective in persistence, willingness and flexibility while facing a range of tasks (Ho et al. 2023). Therefore, this skill can help me to be flexible and face challenges
effectively which can increase operational efficiency. Furthermore, as a leader, it is crucial for me to have emotional intelligence which will help me to increase compliance with the requirements of employees. This will help me to increase employee productivity and company profitability.
This section will describe the skills of Elon Musk which will help in understanding the skills that are required to be a global leader. This will further help in improving those skills. In this regard, people are required to identify skills critically which will help in increasing productivity.
The business leader chosen for this study is Elon Musk. He is a well-known face in the current business world. Currently, Elon Musk is leading different companies such as Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, Boring Co. and X. Elon Musk is admired around the world for his extreme level of leadership and entrepreneurship (Khan, 2021). He is equipped with several different skills and knowledge that one needs in the current realm of business. Thus, he has been chosen for this study. He is considered among one of the most successful people in their professional domain using their personal effectiveness which makes him relevant for this analysis.
For the analysis of skills Elon Musk, Covey’s model of 7 habits will be used which can provide justification for the skills they possess.

Therefore, these habits can help in identifying the skills and competencies of a global leader which will help in gaining knowledge on the required skills for career growth.
The most common habit of Elon Musk and Bill Gates is reading books (Priestley, 2023). These two leaders are proactive while reading and it helps them to develop several skills. In this regard, Elon Musk is developing critical thinking skills as books provide different situations to analyse which is crucial in improving critical thinking ability.
It is crucial for a leader to set goals first and then take action according to that goal. In this regard, Elon Musk is effective in setting goals that are leading to the success of multiple companies.
Employees are the most crucial stakeholders for a company considering their relationship with competitive advantage (Crane, 2020). However, employees in the companies of Musk are not treated well which shows that Musk cannot put first things first.
Elon Musk does not consider the benefits of employees as it is expected from employees to work overtime which leads to low compliance with this habit.
Elon Musk has low emotional intelligence as employees are bound to work on the terms of the company which can lead to decreased productivity.
Low emotional intelligence of Elon Musk can lead to low synergy which might impact the operational efficiency of the company.
The habits of Elon Musk can increase the productivity and profitability of a company, however, low compliance with employees may impact the operational efficiency of the company.
From the above discussion, it was found that both I and Elon Musk have different types of Skills. On the side, there are some skills where both Musk and I are equipped. On the other hand, there are some skills which we lack. First of all, it was found that the time management skills of Elon Musk and I are very good. According to the study by Akinkoye et al. (2022), it was found that the skills of managing time help in order to leverage time resources effectively and help in prioritising the required factors. It was found that my leadership skills are also good. On the other hand, their leadership skills of Musk are under question, as Musk keeps firing employees from his firms. In a recent report, it was found that Musk fired around 1,000 employees from his company X, from the security team (Singh, 2024). However, over the period Musk has built different companies and made them successful which shows his skill of critical thinking, which I lack. My approach to the problems is not adequate to solve them, as I lack the skill of critical thinking in my personal life. This is an area of improvement which I need to focus on over time. On the other hand, emotional intelligence is one of the crucial skills that one should have for personal effectiveness. Having the capacity to recognise and fully understand how one feels as well as the feelings of others is referred to as emotional intelligence (Navaneedhan and Kamalanabhan, 2020). It is one of the strongly required skills in the professional field. However, it was found that both Musk and I lack these skills. As a result, this can be considered as one of the areas of improvement for me.
It was found from the above discussion that there are some crucial skills of personal effectiveness which I lack. These skills need to be improved on me. Thus, the main purpose of this personal development plan is to guide me to develop the skills of personal effectiveness.
Based on the analysis of the previous parts it was found that I lack some of the crucial skills of personal effectiveness that I need to develop. As a result, two primary areas of development for me have been illustrated below.
According to El-Ghadouni, (2021), critical thinking is an essential part of education in order to prepare individuals to criticise ideas. However, the lack of these skills restricts me from critiquing the ideas of others. Thus, this has been identified as the area of development.
As per JP and Aluvala, (2022), it was found that emotional intelligence works in order to reduce the negative impacts of emotions on failure. This helps to maintain a balance of emotion and stability in the workplace. However, I lacked these skills which might result in a negative impact of failure on my emotions. Thus, it has been chosen as one of the areas of improvement for me.
In order to improve the above-mentioned two areas I need to follow some of the strategies or plans which have been illustrated below.

The above-mentioned action plan has been developed to bridge my skill gap. This includes both long-term and short-term goals which would be met over the period and help me achieve a wider range of goals in both personal and professional domains. According to Kassem, (2021), debate was found to be enhancing critical thinking among the students. Thus, it has also been included in the action plan of mine. On the other hand, improvement of self-awareness results in the development of emotional intelligence. Thus, I will be focusing on improving my self-awareness within the next 1 month to improve my emotional intelligence skills. Further, Xiang et al. (2021), highlighted that mindfulness enhances the EI. Thus, besides self-awareness, this would also be focused on the organisation. However, these would be achieved within a short period. On the other hand, long-term goals and expert mentorship have also been included in the study that would guide me to become an expert in these skills and solve larger problems. This would eventually lead me towards achieving growth in personal effectiveness.
Based on the entire analysis, it can be concluded that Gibbs’ reflective model has helped me to demonstrate my skills and which areas I need to improve to enhance my professional skills and knowledge. Critical analysis of skills, traits and abilities of Elon Musk has led me to realise that I need to focus on my communication and critical thinking skills which can help me to achieve success in my future work. Based on the analysis of Covey’s model of 7 Habits, I understood that I need to prioritise things that seem required and need close observation which can help me to win in any kind of challenging situation. I also learned that I need to understand each thing before taking any kind of strategic action which will lead me to make progress in an efficient manner.
Through an overview of the personal effectiveness enhancement plan, I understood that I need to focus on my critical thinking and EI (Emotional Intelligence) skills which will help me to explore creativity and win any challenging situation with my critical thinking skills. That is the reason, I will join debates and discussions as a short-term goal, join a course for 18 months and derive 12 months of membership as long-term development goals.
